Ceramics handicraft is a traditional activity of many villages in Abruzzo: a regardable place is represented by Castelli, a little hamlet immerse in the green at the bottom of Monte Camicia, in the northern side of the National Park of Gran Sasso-Laga.
Castelli is the most famous centre for ceramics and majolica production in Abruzzo. From here the splendid handworks go around the most important handicraftâs museum and exhibitions of the world. Ceramics production started in Castelli at the end of the 1400âs, and during the 1500âs majolicaâs masters created the âpentacromiaâ, a new chromatic tradition that characterized the gold period of local production. |
