 San Giovanni ad Insulam

The Romanesque church of S: Giovanni ad Insulam (12th-13th  century) can be found just a few kilometres from the old centre of Isola.

The structure has a basilica layout with a nave and two aisles terminating in a single central apse.
A handsome foliage decoration, framing a fantastic bestiary, runs along the lintel of the main Benedictine style portal.

Worthy of note in the interior are the supporting capitals, the frescoes on the apse dome and the lovely barrel vaulted crypt, supported by circular columns.
