Stone |
Cohabitation between man and mountain made the activity of stone extraction and working develop: the ductile white stone and the more resisting and compact black stone, more suitable to be polished. Even from roman age Abruzzo’s masters engraved local white stone to make churches and buildings, and to adorn them with sculptures, monuments, decorations and restorations. Chisellers’ skill can be noticed walking by the alleys of Abruzzo’s villages, by entrance’s portals, by balconies’ decorations and by patronal houses’ façades. The most common objects of their production are: rose-windows, apotropaic mask, acanthus leaves and noble coats of arms. |
