 The Parks in Abruzzo


Abruzzo has got three National Parks: the Park of Abruzzo, those of Gran Sasso and Maiella; a regional Park, the Velino-Sirente and more then 30 reserve and natural oases.

The most varied landscape alternate from incredibly vast Karst plain of the Gran Sasso to the major Highlands, from the deep canyons of the Majella to the extensive forest of the Alga; from the mountain peak plateaus to the long valleys; from the high meadowsto to wild rocky environments; and still more whit snowfields, waterfalls, streams, grottos and even a glacier, the Calderone, the only one of the Apennines and the southernmost in Europe.

The regional park of Velino-Sirente
The Velino-Sirente Park was created by Abruzzo Region in 1989. Its territory includes Monte Velino, with its 2468 metres it’s the third highest Apennine peak, and the Sirente massif, which is formed by a single, almost straight ridge of about 20 kms. Continue ...
